California has a spending problem but instead of addressing it head on, like all of its citizens must, the answer is always taxes, taxes, and more taxes. The fact is, there will never be enough tax revenue to meet CA’s limitless spending. It will all come crashing down just like it does in all communist countries and, with the national supermajority in place, it will take the rest of the country with it. Get your affairs in order.

Open up small business and then you would have revenue instead of trying to impose a hair brain tax on mileage for vehicles

Yes, this is a good thing for California. Gov. Newsom knows best how to drive away the base of taxpayers that serve as paid servants to the wealthy elite. And when those middle American taxpayers continue to leave by the thousands, once they wake up to what they voted for, then that’ll be good for California. As the core tax base dwindles away, Gov. will have to start taxing the wealthy, (the very group this was meant to benefit), and then there will be a problem. Until then, enjoy your move to Arizona or wherever.

Right now, the burden of paying for the roads falls on the drivers of gasoline powered automobiles. Since drivers of electric cars do not contribute, a mileage tax on them only, would be reasonable.

Comrades
Take a real look at freeways….clogged with millions commuting from where there is affordable housing away from crime/slime/governance decayed cities with frightful schools.
Now a tax for trying to find the American dream….

Best way to end global warming is to tax politicians for releasing hot air.

If it’s delivered, transported, whatever the cost goes up. When business raise prices on goods to cover the cost of a mileage tax the state collects more sales tax revenue. Service vehicles will charge based on mileage from their office to your location. Could be revenue generating for service companies. Other states will follow. Business does not pay tax, they collect it for the state and pass the cost of doing business on to the consumer.

I am fortunate enough to be able to now work as a software engineer from home. My mileage now is maybe 10% what it was in 2019. This would punish the physical working class already paying a extra $1+ compared to other states to put fuel in their trucks.

I have been hanging on to a house in California because it is on the ocean in a beautiful spot. Just yesterday I got notified that the county wants to tax me on my furniture and other items in the house because part of it is used for a vacation rental. Today, this mileage tax. I have been resisting, against all common sense, leaving California completely. I don’t want to sell my home, but it is time. California will be losing another tax payer (between all taxes to the state/county I pay about 12k/year). Have found Florida to be much… Read more »

Do not hesitate to move….even the dumbest, most reprehensible rodents are jumping ship. Be sure to dump your CA license plates ASAP where ever you end up….your vehicle should not reflect your past mistakes…

You’ll be doing the state a favor. Under Prop 13, the house will be reappraised and the property tax will go up. The state has an insatiable need for money and will continue to beat it out of the middle class.

Don’t sell it.
Taxes will just be higher for the new owner.

Tear it down and leave an empty lot.

As much as I would like to see newsom recalled, after witnessing the theft of the presidential election, I bet the Dems would cheat on this too.
