Atheist Marin congressman wants to tax Catholic churches

Catholic League president warns off Huffman’s threat to Church’s tax-exempt status

From Bill Donohue

Rep. Jared Huffman is a Democrat from California, an atheist, and an anti-Catholic bigot. He showed his real colors when he recently tweeted the following:

“If they’re [the Catholic bishops] going to politically weaponize religion by ‘rebuking’ Democrats who support women’s reproductive choice, then a ‘rebuke’ of their tax-exempt status may be in order.”

For more real news, see our home page, PressCalifornia.com.

Huffman (D-Marin County) obviously objects to the First Amendment’s provisions on freedom of speech and freedom of religion. Accordingly, he should resign from the Congress of the United States. There are plenty of other countries where he would fit in just fine, ranging from Iran to North Korea.

In 2018, Huffman co-founded an atheist congressional group. He is so much in love with abortion and gay rights that he has received a 100% voting record from NARAL and the Human Rights Campaign. Not surprisingly, he was a co-sponsor of the Equality Act, the most anti-religious liberty congressional bill ever introduced.

It is important for the Catholic League to know how many other Democrats believe that the Catholic Church should lose its tax-exempt status. Hopefully, they will now come out of the shadows and let us know. Contact Huffman’s chief of staff: Jennifer.goedke@mail.house.gov.

Bill Donohue is president of the Catholic League.

Stupid politicians are always trying to steal our money. It’s okay when there’s enough stupid people willing to pay the taxes. But with the kill shot going to all the ignorant folks, pretty soon you’ve killed off the useless tax payers.

Why doesn’t the atheist just create a church of nothing, with secular values, and support for murdering the innocent, and Marxism in schools, and then he can get a tax deduction too… Are used to believe that atheist had some point. Now I just think they’re missing something. Something very important. If you can experience the Lord‘s grace, you are a sad person indeed.

I’m somewhere between a conservative and a libertarian and I agree churches should be taxed along with other religious institutions.
Catholic Church is worth billions…

Not a good idea at all. If there was an honest tier system, maybe. But some rural folks get by on dimes and nickels. Uncle Scam will take anything he can get…

Really? How “profitable” are schools, cemeteries, and churches? Oh, I forgot — old age homes, nuns retirement homes, missions, and orphanages… I think you will find that none of them are “profitable” businesses whatsoever, but only manage to stay afloat through careful management and donations.

While I’ve been critical of faiths, in general, you do make an excellent point. Church infrastructure borders on ancient.
But could you imagine the outrage in the world if just the Catholic Church, alone, tried to go green? They don’t get free gas and electric.
New efficient electrical upgrades, gadgets and power plants to keep the lights on? People of all faiths would ridicule the “optics” of that because, when it comes to faiths, hate has no “on/ off” power switch.
The Pope and Cardinals would have to go into hiding. And there’s no hiding at the local level.

Because you should not covet others possessions. And anyway it is not your money to spend.

Angry, wimpy tootsie pop people.

Shows how much you know. In every state, non-profit organizations, including the CC, all pay Property taxes. The exemption is for Income taxes, which they DON’T have to pay. So, all that land, and all those buildings, are already taxed.

It’s not about politics. Joe Biden not receiving holy communion is about the tenants of the Catholic faith. Abortion and the support of abortion is a grave sin. You cannot take communion with a mortal sin on your soul. And by the way, if people want to tax Churches than they better be careful what they wish for. That will cause Churches to become political if there going to be taxed with every right to influence politics as taxpayers. The left is always crying about separation of Church and state. Now they are singing a different tune. There are over… Read more »

With all due respect, no one block of everyone and anyone, creed, color, geography, political party, etc. is a unified voice….unless they’re stealing your money.
Taking things from others really brings people together! Especially lately.

Why just the Catholic churches? They should ALL be taxed!

As a person born Catholic, and having attended school from kindergarten to completing a professional university degree in Catholic Schools, I can assure you…the Catholic Church can afford to pay taxes!

As soon as it is Spent on Land or Buildings or businesses, it should then be Taxed

Donations to houses of worship are tax deductible. Still..
That’s like telling the Feds I don’t owe them any tax because I already gave too much to the County and State.
Yes, I’d rather see a 90% tax on people with a net worth > $1 billion than the church, but they’re the ones trying to wipe out all the sheep. Collectively, the elite now have more $$$ and power than god…. every last one of them.
