RIP I wondered where he got off to sad he will be missed
Rest in peace, Norm. Comedy legend. One of few I actually paid to see in person, too. I laughed heartily that night. The best.
He was really funny and I liked his smirk. I didn’t know he endured cancer for 9 years.
Don Ohlmeyer was the producer of Monday Night Football, perhaps at the time when OJ was running away from football defenses instead of cops.
That Macdonald dissed a murderer who Ohlmeyer could say was a “good friend”, probably sealed Norm’s fate on SNL.
SNL was already on the down elevator when Macdonald was there but he always made me laugh for all the reasons noted in the article.
Kicked off SNL due to his merciless jokes about O.J. The thing was, those jokes absolutely reflected what most of America thought: O.J. did it. But it wasn’t politically or racially expedient. Taking him off Weekend Update was a HUGE mistake.
He was a slow burn kind of comic, but he delivered. He will be missed – also missed as ‘yoffit’ on ‘The Orville’ – should that ever come back.
A very good comedian. He stood out from the rest for his willingness, and sometimes sheer glee, in mocking leftists icons of the time (Clintons, OJ, gays, etc.). He absolutely nailed it with his Bob Dole impression / caricature. He was probably the best Weekend Update anchor SNL ever had – back when SNL was worth watching.
Norm Macdonald was from a time when comedy was actually funny. Imagine that, laughing at jokes.
