Voters like their open air insanity patients running things. They keep reelecting them. Grocery stores and other places that sell recyclable materials like beverage containers, meanwhile, rely on those recycling centers. State law mandates that sellers either have on-site recycling facilities or sit within a half mile of one. LISTEN UP! The one, single, solitary reason why these stupid laws keep popping up is because the authors are interested in one thing, and one thing only — to be able to attach their names to a piece of legislation that passed so they can say/show they “did something.” These people know the laws they write are stupid, unenforceable, unrealistic, etc., but they don’t care one bit. Where I live, the city picks up grass clippings in the summer and leaves in the fall. They signed a deal a few years ago with a large company that wanted to convert it to compost. It was all taken to s site near the landfill and piled in long uncovered rows. These rows were turned on a schedule over and over until it was composted. Worked great…..but the SMELL of all that decomposing matter was horrible on a good day and unbelievably horrible on a bad day.
